.17HMR verses .17HMR2
« on: February 17, 2013, 01:55:30 PM »
Interested in hearing opinions on the accuracy potential of the .17HMR2 verses the .17HMR?
I have an HMR in a BSA Martini action, but considering getting a bolt gun.

Does anyone have both and have you done a accuracy comparison?

I tried both Hm2 & Hmr in Marlin heavy barrel & found them both very very good but went with the Hmr when I bought. I am having absolutely no regrets with buying the Hmr & really enjoy it. I didnt think the Hm2 could offer as much advantage range wise over the .22 as the Hmr did.

Just my thoughts

I passed up a 17 HMR in a martini action a couple of years back.  I regretted it very quickly.

I have had both.

The problem here is that we do not have the demand for the Hm2 so the ammo we get is mostly old.

I would run with the Hmr for accuracy and hitting power.

The CZ hm2 I had was really accurate but the ammo was pretty crappy at best. When I could find the Eley stuff, it would one hole at 50yds and do 1/4 inch at 100 with an 18X scope.

I have had more frustration than than anything else regarding the Hm2 and whilst I love the way it stops possum and any other small critter it has come across, the logical choice goes with it's bigger brother.

With regard to Andre's comment about old ammunition, Eley only ever made HM2 in 2005. That was it. Any Eley you can find is 7 years old, and they don't make it any more.
